Do Guelph students have a health or dental plan?

All full- or part-time undergraduate students and all full-time graduate students are automatically enrolled in the student health and dental plans and will be charged the annual fees. Student plans may be combined with other plans to provide 100% coverage.

Family coverage is available for spouses (including common-law and same-sex partners) and dependent children under the age of 21 (or age 25 if in full-time attendance of school). The deadline to add family coverage is September 30 for fall registrants, January 31 for new winter registrants and May 31 for new summer registrants.

Students covered by an equivalent health plan and/or dental plan can opt out of these plans by submitting an online opt-out form by the posted deadline. Students will need to provide proof of alternate coverage.

NOTE: Dental opt-outs will no longer carry forward from year to year; students who wish to opt out of the health plan and/or the dental plan MUST opt out every year, commencing Fall 2019.

OVC DVM Program Students: The Student Health Plan covers all requisite rabies vaccines (initial series) plus any needed booster vaccinations) required for students registered in the DVM program. Should you choose to opt out from the student health plan, please first ensure that you have coverage specifically for rabies vaccination by an alternate plan. The average cost is $200 per rabies vaccination dose and three or more doses are typically required. Note that students not covered by the Student Health Plan will be required to pay up front and then submit for reimbursement to their alternate plan.
